Safety Rules

The almost 3 km long route offers fun and a downhill experience for the whole family. Starting from the mountain station, the generously designed course with meadow curves, pull paths, steep bends as well as seesaws and waves leads down the mountain to the valley station of the Semmering Hischenkogel cable car. For some obstacles, there is the option of choosing a simple bypass.

 

The mountain carts at Semmering are designed for one person only and may only be used by children with a minimum height of 130 cm (physical ability to operate the cart safely is required). Helmets are compulsory when riding the carts. You can bring your own helmet or hire one for € 4.00 at the ticket office in the valley or at the mountain shop at the mountain station. Sturdy shoes are obligatory for the ride.

Mountain Carts Semmering

From what age or height is one allowed to ride?

Children may ride a mountain cart as soon as they are at least 130 cm tall (physical ability to operate the cart safely is required) – regardless of age. The carts are designed for one person only. Smaller children cannot be taken along on someone’s lap.

How long does a descent take?

The track at Semmering is just under 3 km long and leads over meadows, tow paths, curves, as well as seesaws and rollers. Depending on your speed, the descent takes approximately 15 to 25 minutes.

Do I need special equipment?

Helmets are mandatory. You can bring your own helmet or rent one on-site for €4.00.
For your safety, sturdy footwear is required.

Do I need a reservation for the mountain carts?

For groups of 10 or more people, we recommend making a reservation.
Group rates apply for groups of 10 or more as well.

Is the Niederösterreich Card valid for the mountain cart ride?

No, the mountain cart ride is not included in the Niederösterreich Card.
However, with the NÖ-CARD, you get one free uphill and downhill ride with the cable car per summer season, as well as free entry to the forest rope park.
Cardholders also receive a special discount on mountain cart rental.

How much does mountain cart riding at Semmering cost? Which ticket do I need?

The following tickets are available for the mountain carts: Mountain Cart Trial Ticket, Hiking & Mountain Cart Ticket, 2-Ride Mountain Cart Points Card, as well as the Jump & Ride and All-in Tickets. Tickets can be purchased directly at the valley or mountain station or conveniently online – please note that not all tickets are available in the online shop.

Are there any restrictions on body weight for mountain cart riding?

The maximum body weight allowed for using a mountain cart is 100 kg.
